Meloni “No military mission in Hormuz, but post-conflict contribution”

BRUSSELS (BELGIUM) (ITALPRESS) – On the crisis in the Middle East “there was a very broad discussion based on the position of the European Union. The EU member countries are not directly involved in this conflict and are instead committed to building on the diplomatic level the possible paths for a de-escalation”. Thus Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the press conference in Brussels at the end of the European Council.
“We also spoke with the Secretary-General of the UN Guterres, today at lunch, there is the theme of the crisis of multilateralism. The question of energy security enters the Council conclusions. We asked for a moratorium on energy infrastructure attacks,” he added.

“We talked about freedom of navigation also in relation to the statement with some other European partners. On the one hand, we call on Iran to guarantee freedom and security in navigation and on the other, the availability is offered, when there will be conditions, to give a hand – the President of the Council emphasizes -. On this I want to be clear: nobody thinks of a military mission to force the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. What we are interrupting, when there will be conditions, but reasonably in a post-conflict phase, is how we can offer the contribution, in agreement with the parties, to ensure and defend freedom of navigation”.
