Meloni “No signal to allies. I’m with Italy and the West.”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “I have read bizarre things about my presence here such as the theory that I wanted to indulge in a raid among the moderates, but after Calenda’s intervention I bring moderation. Another surreal reconstruction is that I am here to give signals to my allies, ready to replace them. In Italy we go from criminalizing between sides to making the government together, but this has never been my figure.” Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said this while speaking at the Congress of Action.

“I am here for a much deeper reason: I come from a political history and from a community that has made confrontation with ideas, even the most distant possible from itself, the hallmark of its dimension. Without the fact that confrontation with even distant people could ever question the identity we had,” he added, “I am here because I know how crucial moments like this are for the health of parties and democracy as a whole.

“I was very astonished,” she adds, “at the interpretation many people gave to my interview with the Financial Times. They said it is scandalous that Meloni claims to be with Trump and against Europe. I said something very different: I am always with Italy, which is in Europe, and that Italy must work to strengthen or defend the unity of the West, which is a very precious asset to be dismissed lightly.”

“I think it is in my and Italy’s responsibility to do what we can to defend this unity and rebuild it if necessary,” he added, “Of course there are divisive issues and differences on the table, starting with tariffs. But for this very reason I believe that we must not act impulsively, but in a reasoned way, seeking every possible point of balance.”
