Meloni “When we disagree with the U.S. we say so. On mission in the Gulf for solidarity and supply”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Obviously the international crisis is having already and will have negative effects on energy and the Italian economy: the government monitors them and intends to intervene with all the tools that are possible to protect families and enterprises, as we have done today with another 500 million euros destined to extend until May 1 the cut of 0.25 euros of the cost of fuel. We have also expanded the previous measure with measures to help farmers and companies exporting.” Thus the President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, in an interview with the Tg1. “Then the opposition clearly does its job, but it is also in the fortunate position of those who can criticize comfortably sitting on the couch because they are others who have to solve the problems and we do it. We might expect a somewhat more constructive attitude,” he said.

“Like the other European countries, we help the Gulf nations to defend themselves against Iranian attacks, we do so clearly because they are strategic countries for our interests and are friendly countries, but above all we do it to protect the tens of thousands of Italians who are present in the region. The mission is a gesture of solidarity that as a goal has also to guarantee Italy the energy supplies that are necessary. I was already in Algeria to guarantee the gas, today I am in the Gulf to discuss above all the oil: from these nations comes about 15% of the oil that is necessary for Italy”, he explained.

“I believe that Europe has not much to gain from a divaluation with the United States, but our work is above all to defend our national interests: when we disagree, we must say and this time we do not agree.” So the premier answering a question about Italy’s relations with the United States after what happened in Sigonella.

On the government: “That the government goes on I said it a minute after the outcome of the referendum. The next day we were at work because we don’t have time to lose. We have no time to lose especially at a time like this. I enjoy reconstructions on resignations and regrets that, for me, they are alchemies of palace that do not affect anyone: who wants, keep talking about this. Meanwhile, we continue to do our work for the good of this nation,” he concludes.
