Michelin for his 120 years presents two new tyres

ORIGGIO (VARESE) (ITALPRESS) – In the year in which Michelin celebrates the 120 years of industrial presence in Italy, the new michelin Primacy 5 Energy and Pilot Sport 5 Energy, thus expanding the offer of summer tyres. And if it is two distinct ranges, one element unites them: energy efficiency. The presentation comes at a positive moment for the brand that reaches the finish of 120 years in full shape. “We are facing an important milestone. But it is not the purpose: it is a long path made of innovation, industrial history and especially of people. Thanks to them and to an adequate level of investment, Michelin constantly manages to innovate the world of the tire”, said Agostino Mazzocchi, president and AD Michelin Italy. In our country, Michelin is a leader for installed production capacity (14 million tires per year) and is the first employer in the sector, with more than 3,800 employees distributed in the three Piedmontese factories in Turin – where there are also the registered office and the logistic warehouse – Alessandria, Cuneo and the commercial headquarters of Milan. The new robotic line of Cuneo, unique in Europe, represents an additional distinctive element that strengthens the competitiveness of the company, not only nationally but also European. An innovation also results from the huge investments made by the Michelin Group in Italy, which over the last five years amounted to 432 million euros. We also keep in mind that the only research and development section at group level counts 6 thousand people with budgets that in 2024 reached the share of 1,2 billion euros. In 2025, Michelin Italia also created an induced of 328 million euros and collaborated with 2,800 suppliers, strengthening its role as engine of local growth and competitiveness. Coming back to the brand’s new tyres, we are talking about Michelin Primacy 5 Energy and Michelin Pilot Sport 5 Energy. “We talk about two ranges that maximize energy efficiency: a touring range and a sportsman. Moreover, the safety performance regarding the Primacy 5 Energy is maintained and at the same time the sports performance regarding the Pilot Sport 5 Energy”, explained Antonio di Benedetto, product manager suv & car, underlining that these tyres “ are aimed at motorists who need to maximize the energy efficiency of their vehicle both thermal, electrical or hybrid”. As part of the European tire label, all the dimensions of the new MICHELIN Primacy 5 Energy are evaluated in class “A” in braking on the wet. This tire improves the brake distance of 8% compared to its predecessor, both from new and from wear to 2 mm, that is near the legal wear limit (1,6mm). Energy efficiency – performance included within the European label – is also evaluated in the “A” class and places the new MICHELIN Primacy 5 Energy at the top of the category. In detail, an energy-efficient “A” tire allows: up to 6% savings on consumption (0.3 L/100 km); up to +10% autonomy for an electric vehicle; up to 169 euro savings and 327 kg of CO2 avoided; up to +70 km of additional autonomy per charge for a car. MICHELIN Primacy 5 Energy is already available from January 2026 in 35 sizes, from 16′′ to 21′′′′′. The Michelin Pilot Sport 5 energy tire is designed for those who want to combine sports and fuel efficiency, without any compromise. An extremely rare position in the category of sports tires. The technologies derived from Michelin experience in motorsport allow this tyre to offer excellent driving accuracy and high grip, both on dry and wet. The excellent mileage of the new MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 energy is the concrete answer to one of the most important challenges insports car: the fastest tyre wear. Thanks to the set of technologies, which work on structure, materials and tread design, the new MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 energy reduces rolling resistance to a level never seen before in a sports tire. This tire is the leader of the category in terms of kilometric duration and, at the same time, gets the class “A” in energy efficiency. According to Di Benedetto “we can decline without energy for any kind of power. For an electric vehicle we will talk about more autonomy and therefore more kilometers routes with the same charge. Instead, for a thermal vehicle we will talk about reducing fuel consumption, we do not forget about the environment with reduction of CO2 emissions”.
