Microlino Italia launches alarm on the new EU system of green credits

TORINO (ITALPRESS) – Microlino Italia expresses a strong concern and a marked contradiction to the European orientation on the new system of green credits. The proposal – in phase of approval – includes the city cars under 4,20 meters, introducing a new class M1e with “supercredits” in the calculation of fleet emissions, but continues to exclude the category L7e, to which belong the electric microcars like Microlino. It is an obvious contradiction: on the one hand, it is stated that it wants to encourage economic and urban electric cars, on the other hand the lightest and most efficient vehicles are left out today on the European market. So – observes the company – if category L remains excluded, microcar manufacturers will not be able to benefit from either “supercredits” or fleet pooling, the system through which electric manufacturers sell CO2 certificates to groups still exposed to combustion engines.

The paradox is also evident on the competitive plane. With the introduction of the new M1e class, manufacturers will be able to count on rewarding coefficients and direct purchase incentives in different European countries, while L7e microcars will be excluded. This creates a structural distortion and not in line with the objective of environmental sustainability, in addition to weakening the industrial competitiveness of the Region penalizing the Made in Europe productions, such as the quadricycles. For Michelangelo Liguori, general manager Micro Mobility System, “the L category today represents the most proportionate solution to European urban mobility. Our vehicles are a little more than 2.5 meters long, they are produced in Europe and require a number of components and resources much lower than a traditional car. Excluding them from green credits means supporting larger and more energetic models. For this reason we ask for consistency: if the goal is to reduce emissions and value those producing electricity, it is important not to neglect those who make the most efficient vehicles of the market”.
