ROME (ITALPRESS) – The Islamic Hamas Movement has decided to postpone the handover of the Israeli hostages, who were scheduled to be released next Saturday. The Palestinian movement said in a note, “The resistance leadership has been monitoring the enemy’s violations over the past three weeks and its failure to comply with the terms of the agreement; delaying the return of displaced persons to the northern Gaza Strip, targeting them with shelling and firearms in various areas of the Strip and not allowing the entry of humanitarian aid in all its forms as agreed, while the resistance has fulfilled all its obligations.”
Hamas made it clear that the handover of the detainees, who were scheduled to be released next Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, will be postponed until further notice and until Israel commits to retroactively compensate for the last few weeks. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office announced Monday the return of the delegation for ceasefire talks from Qatar. The cease-fire agreement was reached after months of intermittent negotiations mediated by Qatar, the United States and Egypt. The first phase of the cease-fire agreement went into effect Jan. 19, providing for the release of detainees in the Strip in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. The first phase of the 42-day agreement will provide for a temporary cessation of military operations, with Israeli forces withdrawing eastward, away from densely populated residential areas, and positioning themselves on the border in various areas of the Gaza Strip.
