ROME (ITALPRESS) – The handover by the men of the Ezzedin al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, of the three Israeli women held hostage since Oct. 7 to the Red Cross took place in the Gaza City square, as stipulated in the cease-fire agreement. They are Romi Gonen, Doron Steinbrecher and Emily Damari.
The three women arrived at the initial reception point in southern Israel and met with their mothers, the IDF reported.
“I know, we all know that they have gone through hell, they are going from darkness to light, they are really coming out of
slavery to freedom,” says Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, as reported by the Times of Israel. “This moment was achieved through the sacrifice and courage of our heroic fighters … this is a great moment, an exciting moment. A great day.”
After the postponement of the entry into force of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, first scheduled for today at 8:30 a.m. local time, due to Hamas’ failure to submit the list of hostages to be released, at 11:15 a.m. (10:15 a.m. in Italy) Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office announced that under the framework for the release of hostages, the first phase ceasefire in Gaza has come into effect. Israel confirmed that it has received the names of the three hostages, three young women, who will be released in the coming hours. The implementation of the agreement, in fact, had been conditioned on the handing over of the list of names of the three hostages, which, according to the terms of the understanding reached with the mediation of Qatar, Egypt and the United States, should have been delivered 24 hours before the release.
Immediately after the news broke, Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and members of his Otzma Yehudit party submitted letters of resignation from the government and the coalition, as they had previously promised if the deal was approved. Local media reported that. “The reckless approval of an agreement with the terrorist organization Hamas, which includes the release of hundreds of murderers with the blood of men, women and children on their hands, some in Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria, represents a shameful surrender,” the party said. “This agreement forfeits the IDF’s hard-won achievements in the war, results in the withdrawal of forces from Gaza and stops the fighting in a way that capitulates to Hamas,” it added. Meanwhile, the IDF has made it known that it “continues to operate and strike terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip. Earlier today, artillery and aircraft struck a number of terrorist targets in northern and central Gaza. The army remains ready for defense and offense and will not allow any harm to be done to the citizens of Israel.” The Gaza Strip Civil Defense announced that three people were killed and others were injured in this morning’s attacks by the Israeli army.
