ROME (ITALPRESS) – “It is reasonable to expect that migrants will be transferred from Italy to Albania between seven and 10 days: we are evaluating all the logistics of the transfers, but that will be the time frame. For now we have a capacity that is around 44 places, but it may soon exceed 140.” Thus Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, a guest on “Five Minutes” on Rai1.
“The operation takes place with unchanged expenses, because the CPR already existed. At the same time, the overall function of the center does not change. The approval of the judiciary will not be needed, as people who have already been validated by the justice of the peace on Italian territory can also be transferred to Albania,” he explained.
“Someone mentioned the possibility that they could apply for international protection, and in that case the Court of Appeal in Rome would have to deal with it. However, the law is structured in such a way that even in that case they would be detained in Albania. Border control is a topical issue and a solution that the whole of Europe is looking at, with the aim of saving people’s right and at the same time strengthening the repatriation system and starting a season of serious fight against human trafficking,” Piantedosi concluded.
