MILAN (ITALPRESS) – Milan did not shine but brought home three important points in their home match against Verona. It was Gimenez’s first goal at San Siro that sealed the 1-0 win in favor of the 7-time European champions. The guests started strongly and on 2′ it was Duda who immediately engaged Maignan with a central right-footer that the goalkeeper lifted over the crossbar. The Rossoneri’s first breakthrough came in 25′, when Reijnders skipped past Dawidowicz dryly and suddenly kicked with a right-footed shot from distance, but Montipò was alert and deflected it into the corner. Two minutes later, Joao Felix made a return cross from the left that Montipò touched in for a corner after crossing dangerously into the box. At 33′, the referee cancels a Gimenez goal for offside. The best chance for Conceicao’s men comes in the midst of the recovery when again Gimenez, served in the box by Hernandez, backs an inviting ball for Musah who shoots over the crossbar from an excellent position. The first half ended in a deadlocked net. At halftime, it is Leao and Jimenez’s turn to come on from the bench immediately in place of Sottil and Walker. The music, however, does not seem to change. The first noteworthy opportunity does not come until 25′, when Musah grazes the cross of the posts with a powerful conclusion from outside the box after a tow assist from Leao. The winning goal materializes on the half-hour mark. Jimenez unleashes Leao in the box who, after drawing Montipò onto himself on his way out, serves Gimenez in the center with the outside right, who backs into the back of the net with an empty goal from just a few steps for the 1-0 win that decides the match. In the final, the Rossoneri managed the lead without difficulty and the result would not change again. Thanks to this success, Milan moves up to seventh place on a par with Bologna and five points away from the Champions zone.
