CARNAGO (VARESE) (ITALPRESS) – “I am sorry for this situation. I didn’t understand why this former collaborator of mine did this to me, I don’t know if out of malice or if paid by someone, but he will answer for it in the legal venues. All together here we talked with the team, it was a clean week, we were able to work with the whole group available, I am happy with the team, they did a good job.” Sergio Conceicao expresses all his annoyance with the reconstructions that have appeared in the newspapers regarding his dissatisfaction with Milan, daughters of the phrases reported by one of his alleged spokesmen. The Portuguese coach prefers to think about the field, the away match in Lecce tomorrow that must mark a turning point in a season that has taken a negative turn.
“How do we get out of this situation? With results. And to get them we need to work our hardest and believe that things will improve. We need to win, for me it is new to lose three games in a row but there is no other way but to work, believe and do. In these two months there have been bad days but until Zagreb we had a points average second only to that of Napoli. Then it was bad, between expulsions, unforced errors and a bit of bad luck. We can still win two more titles – the reference to the Coppa Italia that would be added to the Super Cup in January – but the next game is the most important, if we think too far ahead we forget to do what is essential today to win.”
“Sacchi a few months ago said I was a lord coach and now he ‘smashes me every day in the newspapers.’ I have great respect for him but he is proof that we coaches depend on the moment. I did not come here from nothing,” the Portuguese coach then proudly claims, “but I have to justify every day why I am the coach of Milan. We have to look ahead, work and win.”
Regarding tomorrow’s eleven and the possibility of excellent exclusions, Conceicao gives no clues but stresses that “I am the first not to want to lose and I would be masochistic not to field a team that I don’t think is the best to win the game. I choose based on the form of the players: one maybe has a lot of quality but physically is not right, as a coach I have to choose who gives me more guarantees.”
And in particular, talking about Maignan, Leao and Theo Hernandez, who are declining compared to past seasons, he adds, “They are great guys, as professionals they have ups and downs like everyone. We talk about them and work to bring out the best in them. They are players who have already shown here at Milan that they can make a difference.”
