Milan strolls past Sassuolo, 6-1 and quarterfinals of Coppa Italia

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – Milan overwhelms Sassuolo 6-1 in the round of 16 of the Coppa Italia: easy success for the Rossoneri thanks to Chukwueze’s brace and goals from Reijnders, Leao, Calabria and Abraham, Mulattieri’s the only goal for the neroverdi. Four goals in the first 23 minutes and third consecutive win for Fonseca’s men, all encouraging signs ahead of Friday’s big match against Atalanta (8:45 p.m.). The Emilians, on the other hand, will resume their path at the top of the Serie B standings in Sunday’s post-match against Sampdoria (5:15 p.m.). The intention of the hosts was to start strong right away, the Portuguese coach wanted to give a signal by deploying Leao and Reijnders, with Abraham as the only forward. The 4-3-3 designed by Grosso went into trouble right away, after just nine minutes the former Roma man found the go-ahead goal, cancelled due to an irregular starting position. On 12′ came the first Rossoneri goal, Chukwueze – after surprising the host defensive line – first hit the post, on the rebound came the winning tap in. Five minutes later, at 17′, Reijnders scored the 2-0 goal with a first-time conclusion from 20 meters. The hosts’ show went on with Chukwueze’s brace (21′) and Leao’s poker, at 23′. Sassuolo did not even manage to sketch a reaction, Loftus-Cheek himself came close to scoring the fifth goal on the development of a free kick from the three-quarter line. The script in the second half did not change even after Fonseca’s four changes: Calabria in the 11th minute found the fifth goal by taking advantage of a series of rebounds in the Emilian area, three minutes later Mulattieri came up with the consolation goal, also aided by Torriani’s reviewable intervention. At 17′ came the 6-1 with a close touch by Abraham. It was all easy for Milan who will find the winner between Roma and Sampdoria in the quarterfinals, a match scheduled for Wednesday, December 18, at 9 p.m. The schedule has not yet been announced, at the moment the scheduled dates are Feb. 5 and Feb. 26.- Photo Image -(ITALPRESS).
