ROME (ITALPRESS) – The Council of Ministers, at the proposal of Minister Anna Maria Bernini, has approved the Presidential Decree redefining the organizational structure of the Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR).
Among the main changes is the establishment of two new directorates-general: one for health specializations, PhDs and other postgraduate training, dedicated to the growing relevance of advanced training, ranging from PhDs, now increasingly integrated with the industrial world, to medical and health specializations; and the second for research evaluation and safety, aimed at strengthening the capacity to analyze and monitor research activities and ensure increasingly high safety standards.
These changes respond to the ongoing transformation in higher education and research, which is increasingly oriented toward a dialogue between universities, industry and public institutions. The new ministerial configuration also aims to strengthen the MUR’s commitment to the right to study, with strategic projects such as university housing, Italian Erasmus and the promotion of national excellence in the fields of arts, music and design.
The General Directorate for the Right to Study will, in fact, see its tasks redefined, which will include the implementation of state interventions to guarantee the right to study and the implementation of housing services for higher education students. At the same time, the General Directorate for the Sustainability and Planning of the Higher Education System will be in charge of monitoring the budgets of universities and coordinate activities related to economic and financial accounting.
More generally, the reform introduces a functional division of responsibilities, with eight directorates general coordinated by a secretary general. Each directorate will have specific functions covering all types of supervised entities: universities, research bodies and institutions of higher education in art, music and dance.
With this reform, the MUR is equipped with more efficient and modern tools to meet future challenges, consolidating the central role of universities and research in the progress of the country.
