MILAN (ITALPRESS) – A largely re-staffed AC Milan was defeated at home by Napoli 2-0. It was goals in the first half by Lukaku and Kvaratskhelia that decided the match in favor of the guests, who score their fifth win in a row and fly ever higher in the Serie A standings. Antonio Conte’s Parthenopeans needed only five minutes to take the lead: Anguissa verticalized for Lukaku, who slipped too easily between the two opposing center-backs, resisted Pavlovic’s return and pierced Maignan with his left foot. The Rossoneri responded in 18′, when Musah tried with a right-footed shot that went just wide to Meret’s left. Two minutes later it was Chukwueze who attempted a left-footed shot from long distance, with Meret repelling on the dive. On 27′, the Parthenopeans lose a bloody ball on the edge of their area, Musah slots in but blatantly miscontrols the ball and a few steps from the goalkeeper and the chance fades. In one of the moments of maximum momentum for the hosts, however, comes 2-0. It is 43′ when Kvaratskhelia picks up the ball on the left, gets back on the right taking advantage of a too-soft double from Fofana, and fires a looping shot at the far post over which Maignan can’t get. It is the goal that sends the two teams into the locker room.
At the start of the second half Morata immediately shortens the gap with a header but the referee cancels for offside after the Var signal. At 17′, Leao and Pulisic came on, the latter not at his best due to gastroenteritis. After a long stalemate, it was Leao himself who tried to light up at 38′ going for a powerful right-footer that found Meret ready, however, to raise it over the crossbar. Two minutes later Chukwueze gets away on the right, serves the ball in tow in the center of the box but Pulisic shoots high. In the final there is room for Camarda to enter the field but the result will not change anymore. Napoli takes the three points and consolidates its lead, rising to 25. Milan, on the other hand, remains in eighth position, -11 from the top.
