NAPOLI (ITALPRESS) – Naples has been around the family of Davide Tizzano for the last greeting to the two-time Olympic champion of canoeing and president of the Italian Canoeing Federation, who died at the age of 57. Hundreds of people attended the funerals celebrated in the Basilica of the crowned Mother of Good Counsel, in Capodimonte, in her native city.
The church, already majestic, has welcomed sportsmen, representatives of institutions, friends and simple citizens. Ghirlande and floral compositions, donated in memory of the sportsman, framed the ceremony. In front of the altar, next to the feretro, there were several flags, including that of the Italian Canoeing Federation. The coffin, covered with flowers, rested on the yellowish flag of the Circolo Canottieri. In the first row the former president of Coni Giovanni Malagò and the Councillor for Sport of the Municipality of Naples, Emanuela Ferrante. Also present are the young athletes of Canottieri, former sportsmen and a representation of the Golden Flames in uniform. Among the famous faces of the world of sport, Massimiliano Rosolino, Patrizio Oliva and Franco Porzio. During the homily was read a touching message by Valentina Rodini, an Olympic champion, on behalf of all athletes: “We want to say thank you and make you a promise. You’ve always asked us the best,” so he started his speech, remembering the tenacity and values of Tizzano. Particularly intense the moment dedicated to the children Rosanna, Vittoria and Giuseppe Leone.
The latter began to read a letter with the words written by his father, but the emotion prevented him from ending. To take her place was her sister Rosanna, who remembered as a child, to the question about what she wanted to do as a big girl, she simply replied: “Davide Tizzano”. The ceremony ended with cross paddles at the entrance of the basilica, symbol of the world of canoeing, which accompanied the exit of the feretro. A long and warm applause marked the last greeting, between tears and emotion. His wife Roberta last greeted the champion with a kiss at the coffin while being placed in the funeral car.
