Nasce Neya, Mundys benefit company focused on carbon removal

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Mundys launches a new Benefit company dedicated to combating climate change. Neya, the name of the new 100% controlled asset, will be focused on the selection and adoption of mainly “nature based” initiatives for carbon removal, with the aim of producing CO2 credits useful for decarbonization of transport infrastructures in which Mundys operates globally. To date, companies born in Europe with the aim of removing CO2 are limited; this motivated Mundys’ choice to start this experimental initiative, in order to verify the solidity of this innovative business branch. The value of the international carbon credit market in 2024 was approximately USD 115 billion, for 2030 estimates provide approximately USD 300 billion, with growth potential up to over 500 billion. It is in this context that Neya joins with its mission to permanently remove CO2 from the atmosphere, through solutions such as the reforestation and sustainable management of forests and agricultural lands, promoting environmental and social sustainability. Neya immediately became operational in Madagascar with the promotion of a reforestation project for 500 hectares along the coasts to the north of the island (in the areas of Sofia and Melaky). The restoration of plantations in locally deforged areas in recent decades will contribute to the removal of CO2, thanks to the particular type of plants chosen. The mangroves, in fact, are tropical coastal forests formed by trees and shrubs capable of living in brackish waters typically along the coasts, the mouths of rivers and lagoons. They have aerial roots that come out of mud or water and are fundamental because they protect the coasts from erosion and storms, they host many species of fish, birds and crustaceans, and store large amounts of carbon. The project, called “Ma Honko”, takes advantage of a local company that will generate employment on the territory in the spirit of production of value along the supply chain, at the center of the sustainable business strategy of Mundys vision. The activity holds the requirements for obtaining the Gold Standard certification, an international body that attests the quality and credibility of projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, while ensuring social and environmental benefits that can be measured. Carbon credits generated over time can thus help offset the emissions of Mundys infrastructures, which in turn is gradually reducing thanks to the implementation of the sustainability framework implemented by the Holding Company. A strategy, that ESG of Mundys, transparent and responsible and that has just once again achieved – for the third consecutive year – the A-list level, maximum score released by CDP (ex Carbon Disclosure Project), an international benchmark rating for climate and environmental performance assessment of over 25,000 companies. Along the sustainability roadmap of the Holding Company are many goals scored here, even in terms of innovative leadership, where Neya seems to mark the next step. Mundys was, in fact, among the first companies in Italy to equip itself with a Climate Action Plan to promote the energy transition and the decarbonization of economic activities throughout the value chain in airport, highway and mobility services, placing clear and concrete objectives, including the zeroing of net direct emissions (Scope 1 & 2) by 2040.
