New record for Piedmont tourism in 2024, 6.28 million arrivals

TURIN (ITALPRESS) – Piedmont recorded a new tourism record in 2024 with more than 6.28 million arrivals and 16.89 million overnight stays, marking an increase of +3.6 percent and +4.1 percent over the previous year. This is certified by data from the Tourism Observatory of the Piedmont Region – Visit Piedmont, which highlight the boost of international demand, with +5 percent of movements from abroad, bringing the total share of overnight stays to 53 percent.

The main European markets – Germany, France and Benelux – consolidate their position among the target areas, and movements from the United States are growing (+12 percent of movements) and also from China (+36 percent of arrivals and +19 percent of presences). “Arrivals are increasing with percentages above the national average, as are presences. Also growing, more than the rest of Italy, are tourists from abroad, in particular the return of tourists from Asian markets – with the further prospect of growth thanks to the Vespucci Tour in recent months and the Osaka Expo in which Piedmont will be a protagonist in early autumn – and the increase in presences from the United States and Europe confirm how our region is increasingly competitive internationally, thanks to the teamwork between institutions, operators and territories,” comments Piedmont Region President Alberto Cirio.

As for the ski season still underway, there is already a growth in international movements. From the provisional numbers of tourist movements for the first few months (between December 2024 and January 2025), the main Piedmontese resorts have recorded significant increases from abroad compared to the same period in the previous season: Alagna Valsesia over +22%; Sestriere over +15%; Bardonecchia about +25%; Limone Piemonte over +20%.

Piedmont is increasingly anxhe emerging as one of the most popular destinations for weddings of foreign couples. According to data released by Italy for Weddings, in 2024 the region hosted more than a thousand international ceremonies, marking a growth of +10.5 percent over the previous year. This segment of tourism generated 148 thousand overnight stays, an increase of +22.4%, and an economic impact of 68.5 million euros, up +12.2%. The Destination Wedding phenomenon in Piedmont continues to expand thanks to the attractiveness of its exclusive locations: from the hills of the Langhe and Monferrato, to the views of Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta, to medieval castles and historic mansions. The industry also stands out for the quality of its hospitality and services, cementing the region’s reputation as a destination of excellence for luxury weddings.
