Nicol Delago triumphs in the descent of Tarvisio, first victory in the World Cup

TARVISIO (ITALPRESS) – It is never too late. First career win in the World Cup for Nicol Delago, who takes the descent of Tarvisio. The 30-year-old from Bressanone, descended with the pectoral number 3, cut the finish line with the time of 1’46′′28 with 0′′′20 on the German Kira Weidle-Winkelmann. The 41-year-old Lindsey Vonn, third at 0′′26, completes the podium.

“I was nervous this morning, I tried to attack and ski well – says Nicol – I love this track and all its curves, I think I did the perfect race, maybe in the central part I was not very fast but then in the final I went strong also thanks to the pectoral. I still have to realize what happened.”.

In the fourth square there is the Austrian Nina Ortlieb (+0′′′42), while in the fifth, more detached, Emma Aicher (+0′′80). The German precedes the blue Laura Pirovano, who shares the sixth position with the American Breezy Johnson (+0′′85). “I am quite happy, because given the general conditions I knew I would have struggled. It’s a bit frustrating to get to the bottom knowing that it has done the best but without finding the result”, says Pirovano, who precedes the Slovenian Ilka Stuhec, the Norwegian Marte Monsen and the third blue in top ten Nadia Delago, sister of Nicol, tenth to 1′′′15.

Just outside the top ten is Sofia Goggia. The Bergamasca goes into difficulty in the stretches on the floor and does not go beyond 11th place to 1′′′35 from the summit. “Surely in the last two stages I’ve done more effort in free descent. I am aware of how strong it can ski and the races of St.Mortiz and Val d’Isere are the confirmation, even if I did not win. Between Zauchensee and Tarvisio I struggled to find the right timing and feel free, but there are ups and downs. Today it goes like this but I am very happy for Nicol, even for the many moments we have lived together”, emphasizes the Goggia.

Four in total blue points with Elena Curtoni 23rd to 2′′99. Outside the top 30, Roberta Melesi (33^), Sara Thaler (36^) and Sara Allemand (42^). The Alpine Ski World Cup remains in Tarvisio for the Sunday SuperG, starting at 11.15.
