PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – Professor Nicola Scichilone, Director of the complex operational unit of Pneumologia del Policlinico “Paolo Giaccone” in Palermo and Director of the Specialization School in Diseases of the University of Palermo, has been elected National President of the Italian Society of Pneumology (SIP). The newly elected will take office in 2027. It is the first time that a specialist from Palermo is called to lead the scientific Society a reference point in the field of Respiratory Medicine for national, regional and local authorities. SIP actively collaborates with the Ministry of Health, Regions, Healthcare Companies and major public health institutions for the definition and dissemination of guidelines dedicated to the management of respiratory diseases, in a highly interdisciplinary perspective. The Company has over 1,700 members, professionals of respiratory medicine in university, hospital and territorial. Professor Scichilone is author of over 340 scientific articles in extensive published in international journals indexed with impact factor, as well as contributions in international and national journals. He also edited chapters of textbooks and monographs of reference in the pneumological sector. «I welcome with enthusiasm and with a deep sense of responsibility this appointment – says Professor Scichilone – an expression of unanimous consent by the Italian pneumological community.
