Nissan will launch competitively priced Vehicle to Grid technology from 2026

PARIS (FRANCE) (ITALPRESS) – Starting in 2026, Nissan will launch a number of models in its EV range with Vehicle to Grid (V2G) technology on the market at attractive prices. The initiative is a further step toward creating a green energy exchange ecosystem between cars and buildings. The project supports the goals of The Arc business plan and the long-term Ambition 2030 vision by providing innovative and diverse solutions for the transition to electric mobility, and helping to create a cleaner, safer and more inclusive world. First in the UK and to follow in other European markets, Nissan customers will be able to use the two-way charging of their cars to store energy and then use it to power their homes or sell it back to the grid.Nissan has a strong track record in terms of V2G, with some 40 pilot projects conducted around the world over the past decade. One of these, which lasted a year at the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom, enabled Nissan to become the first automotive company to achieve “G99 Grid” certification with an AC solution. Nissan aims to spread V2G technology to all European markets and beyond through its Energy division, serving AC or DC forms of charging/discharging in line with local infrastructure and regulatory requirements. With V2G technology, average annual charging costs are reduced by 50 percent and CO2 emissions are cut by 30 percent. The U.K.-certified V2G AC system has the integrated bi-directional on-board charger characterized by an affordable price comparable to a single-directional charger available today. Nissan customers will also have a dedicated app to control and manage their car’s energy. This technology, which allows energy to be stored from renewable sources and then put back into the grid when needed, also helps create a fully integrated sustainable energy ecosystem. “V2G technology can change the very concept of the automobile. No longer just a means of getting around, but a mobile energy storage unit that can save customers money and bring us closer to a carbon-free future. Nissan is proud to democratize technology for the benefit of society. The integrated two-way on-board charger will make V2G EVs more affordable and make the car a source of revenue,” said Hugues Desmarchelier, Nissan Vice President, Global Electrification Ecosystem & EV Programs.
