ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “To say that the separation of careers will lead to subdue the public ministry to the executive is a process to intentions, a verbal trick. It’s a play with chips”. So the Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio, at “Ping Pong” on Rai Radio 1. “You cannot prove a future and uncertain event. This reform reinforces the independence of both the judge and the prosecutor,” he added.
Nordio defined “puerile” linking the reform to possible future interventions and stressed that “there is no link between career separation and political control”. The minister also reiterated that any future changes would not be in my name. I entered the judiciary precisely because I felt it and I believe it a profession that must be absolutely free and independent from every political power”, recalling that the judiciary must remain “absolutely free and independent from all political power”.
According to Nordio the Am “is terrified above all by the draw. Today it works like this: the Am is like the parties to Parliament. They are the ones who nominate candidates’ lists, organize election campaigns, ask and get the votes of the magistrates.”.
With the draw, he explained, “it takes away them, completely, the power. The draw does not take place between ordinary citizens, but between magistrates with at least 20 years of experience and functions of legitimacy, that is, they were in Cassation”.
