One year of Fondazione SportCity, “We aim to sport consciences” / Video

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Sport as a tool for all citizens, cities as human well-being laboratories. It was held in the Sala Zuccari of Palazzo Giustiniani the conference “A year of Fondazione SportCity”, moderated by Iacopo Volpi and promoted at the initiative of Senator Guido Quintino Liris. Present, among others, also Senator Giusy Versace, the president of the Capitoline Assembly of Rome Capital, Svetlana Celli, the president of the Institute for Sports and Cultural Credit, Beniamino Quintieri, the director of Division VI of the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, Fabio Salerno and the president of Opes and member of the National Council Coni, Juri Morico. “We are born from a great insight: cities as a perfect stakeholder to change our country better through the culture of movement. We aim at ‘sporting’ the cities, but today we point even higher: ‘sporting’ the consciences’, explained the president of Fondazione SportCity Fabio Pagliara.

The flagship is SportCity Day, which will return on 20 September 2026 involving more than 600,000 people, after a busy calendar that will interest Fiuggi (SportCity Meeting, 20-22 March), Salsomaggiore Terme (SportCity Edu, 22-23 May), Pietrasanta (SportCity Cult, in June), Perugia (Sport Geopolitica Summit, 9-11 April) and the whole Umbria “SportCity doesn’t have to be just one day: the real success will be when every day will be a SportCity Day. If we team up, we will arrive far,” added Pagliara, while Federico Serra, president of the permanent Observatory on sport and sports practice of Fondazione SportCity, clarified as the project of sport in the cities “is not only about the historical center but also the periphery, not only the big cities but also the inner areas”.

Data on physical activity in Italy are encouraging. According to the Sport Report there are 38 million Italians active with sedentaryness to the historical minimum. “This activity is located in a context where sport is increasingly careful. Not only for the extraordinary results achieved, but also because the awareness of the impact of physical activity on economics and territories is increasingly widespread,” explained Beniamino Quintieri, president of the Institute for Sports and Cultural Credit. Senator Quintino Liris called SportCity “the vehicle to enter many worlds and experiences, bringing the presence of institutions and involving the population without differences, with particular attention to those who are less fortunate from the physical point of view”. On March 6th the Paralympics will begin and from Milan Cortina can get a valuable help for the whole country. Giusy Versace is convinced, senator and paralimpic athlete: “The Games can help change the cultural approach, stimulating kids to get out of the house and do sports. Physical activity helps those who do not live disability to understand that behind each of us there is a story that deserves to be told because it can be a stimulus for the next.”.
