Ostetricia and gynaecology, innovative approaches to San Raffaele di Milano

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – Laser treatment for a pathology that affects 10-15% of women in fertile age, endometriosis; progress and results in the treatment in uterus of spina bifida; new possibilities of motherhood and endocrinological support thanks to the cryrioconservation of ovarian tissue with subsequent transplantation: are only some of the successes obtained from the Operating Unit of Sanctetricia and Ginecology of Milan To distinguish the Oneness, which includes three fields of excellence, gynaecology, obstetricia and reproductive medicine, is the being strongly connected with the other departments of the structure: “One of the characteristics that describes us better – said prof. Massimo Candiani, director of the Unit and ordinary professor of Gynaecology and Obstetrics at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University – is the ability to carry out a collaborative work with the other specialties of our Hospital. Multidisciplinaryity results in a number of advantages for the approach to ostetric diseases, fetal breast medicine and gynecology.” Among the many successes that Unity can boast there are advances in the treatment of endometriosis, pathology that consists in the settlement and in the growth of the mucosa that covers the inner wall of the uterus. “On the endometriosis theme – the prof. Candiani – we have matured almost 40 years of experience. This pathology is characterized by a symptomatic triad: dismenorrea, i.e. pain during menstruation, dispareunia, pain during relationships, and chronic pelvic pain outside the cycle, outside of menstruation. This does not mean automatically that those suffering from these symptoms have endometriosis, but it is an alarm bell. Thanks to our experience we have developed innovative treatments, the last of which is the laser used to treat ovarian endometriosis, really not traumatic”. The Operating Unit of Ostetricia and Gynaecology of the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan has long been dealing with genital congenital malformations, such as Rokitansky syndrome, which affects in Italy 1 girl on 4,500/5000. For this syndrome, which has, since birth, the absence or malformation of uterus and vagina, great steps have already been made: “In the matter of congenital genital malformations, our school – the professor continued – has always striven for the standardization and introduction of new mini-invasive technologies, with the aim, on the one hand, to address the problem that afflicts these young girls more, that is, relational, and, on the other, to prevent future problems related to fertility. Precisely for this reason we are preparing them to face the challenges of tomorrow, very close, not least the speech of uterus transplant”. Mininvasive technologies also come into play in the treatment of intimate disorders and pelvic flooring: “The pathology of pelvic static is a pathology known for several years, such as the treatment to it related, and is part of one of the distinctive signs of our school. Surgery, through mininvasive techniques for the care of these pathologies, the use of new technologies, such as laser, and the introduction of new themes, as can be functional gynecology. The treatments, also of an aesthetic character, cannot in fact ignore the functional aspect of that region. And then, to all this, we add the chapter of the rehabilitation of the perineal plan, very developed by us”. As for reproductive medicine, Candiani said: “At the “Reproduction Medicine Center” you can perform any type of advanced technique inherent in the industry. Like homologation, heterologous fertilization and ovocytic cryopreservation.” -photo IRCCS San Raffaele HospitalMilan – (ITALPRESS).
