Over 660.000 km in 3 years on a Hyundai Ioniq 5

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – A Hyundai IONIQ 5, one of the most representative models of the Brand’s 100% electric range, has reached an amazing result, going over 660.000 kilometers in just three years. The car, used daily for work by a South Korean customer (with a daily average travel of 600 km), has demonstrated exceptional resistance and reliability, facing very high daily average routes in any condition of use and without any significant mechanical failure. After approximately 580.000 kilometers, Hyundai has proposed to the customer to replace free motor and battery for technical analysis purposes, verifying the overall state of the vehicle. The tests confirmed that – after more than half a million kilometres – the battery still retained 87.7% of the original capacity, an extraordinary figure that confirms the engineering quality of the project and the effectiveness of the energy management solutions developed by Hyundai, also in consideration of the numerous refills carried out at high speed in continuous current thanks to the 800 Volt platform of which it is equipped, preferred method by the customer to load the car during its use. During the three years of use, IONIQ 5 has distinguished not only for technical reliability, but also for the operating economy. In the face of such high kilometres, maintenance and supply costs have been significantly lower than a vehicle with equivalent thermal engine. Compared to a gasoline SUV of similar dimensions, the overall estimated savings exceeded $20,000 in three years, thanks to the efficiency of the electric traction system and the lower need for ordinary maintenance. Even wear-resistant components, such as brakes, have shown a significantly higher life thanks to regenerative braking, which reduces the consumption of tablets and optimizes energy recovery. In addition, in these more than 600 thousand km of use, the South Korean customer has confirmed the high comfort of edge made possible by the excellent ergonomics of the seats and the combined soundproofing, which allowed trips immersed in a very spacious and silent cabin. Behind results like this there is an intense research and development work. In the R&D centers of Hyundai Motor Group, engineers have been studying for years the behaviour of car batteries that have traveled high mileages, collecting and comparing data from real vehicles with forecast models of durability. “We design our batteries to last longer than the warranty requirements, thinking about the most challenging, even commercial scenarios,” explains Dal-young Yoon, Senior Research Engineer of the Team Battery Performance Technology Development of Hyundai Motor Group. “The result is a technology that combines performance, safety and durability, the result of an engineering approach that focuses not only on efficiency, but also on the sustainability of the long-term electric driving experience. Our goal is to ensure performance, safety and durability at the highest level, because customers’ trust is built over time.” Each generation of batteries is subjected to rigorous testing, which includes simulations of charging and discharge cycles, extreme usage conditions and long storage periods. This process allows you to build a solid data base, comparable to that accumulated over decades for combustion engines, and to constantly improve energy design and management. In an electric car there is not only autonomy, but also the charging time (extracted by the presence of the 800 Volt net for ultra-fast charging) and reliability, once again witnessed by one of the many customers who chose to drive a Hyundai of the IONIQ range.
