PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – “In recent days we have made many reflections and careful evaluations also on profiles of other coaches, but in the end we decided not to interrupt the working relationship with Alessio Dionisi, who at this moment still enjoys the trust of the club.” Thus Palermo’s sporting director Carlo Osti, during an exclusive interview with Italpress microphones, clarified the current position of the coach. “In recent days,” the Rosanero executive added, “there have been many rumors about a probable exoneration of the coach and many names of other coaches have also come out. I must say that many of these names were not in our thoughts.”
For the Viale del Fante club, after the knockout with Cremonese, there had been talk of a possible change of technical leadership: “There have been three days of intense and fruitful talks,” Osti explained. “We have been in discussion and the ownership has been as always very close. Last night a videocall was made with the board of the City Football Group, our management and the coach, I think it was very positive. Also in the next few days a visit of the board is planned to Torretta to talk to the team and the coaching staff and to start again together. Again we are very pleased that the ownership has given us this input.”
The standings are complicated and difficult, but the playoffs are not too far away: “You only improve through work. We are fully aware that the championship so far is deficit. We are ninth and therefore out of the play-offs. The initial ambitions certainly were very big. In the last eight games we have to try to prove that we are not these. Having said that, I want to say that right now we all feel that we are being challenged, me first.”
“The margin to catch up is there if we were to clearly change our roster. We clearly need to understand, however, that now we need to make as few mistakes as possible, we need to have very high concentration. We cannot afford any more mistakes or missteps, and this obviously concerns the mental sphere, which will be evaluated in the coming days along with the technical and athletic aspects, of course. Also from this point of view, unfortunately, the data says that Palermo in the last third of the match lost many points and this too obviously has to be carefully evaluated. In this sense I think that the week of the break falls perfectly because it will allow us to make many evaluations.”
The Rosanero team will return to the field today to begin preparing for the match against Salernitana next March 30: “It will certainly be a week in which, in addition to working on the athletic and technical aspects, we will also have meetings and try to analyze the situation in 360 degrees,” Osti stressed. The Rosanero ds also dwelt on the reaction he expects from the group: “I expect the team now to take responsibility, because it is clear that if we are in this situation it cannot be the responsibility of only one person, so we are all in question. I’m talking about managers, coach, technical staff and team. I expect a great reaction from the team. We know how important a final championship played in a certain way is for the achievement of a goal that obviously represented the season minimum.”
Finally, on the fans, who have repeatedly shown their discontent: “How can this relationship be restored? Only through victories, and so the team has to find itself again, it has to find its game, it has to try to win games. Through victories we will surely also regain the enthusiasm, passion and warmth of this city, this square and this fan base.”
