Pellegrini and Saelemaekers decide derby, Roma-Lazio 2-0

ROME (ITALPRESS) – The derby of the Capital is yellow and red. Roma overcame Lazio 2-0 in the match valid for the 19th day of the 2024/2025 Serie A championship and won its second consecutive derby: decisive goals came from Lorenzo Pellegrini (who scored one of the most important goals of his career, winning back the Giallorossi people who cheered him as he left the pitch) and Alexis Saelemaekers. The first ring of the match came after three minutes with a conclusion by Kone, which was easily defused by Provedel; the Biancocelesti responded with Marusic, who, however, kicked high. On 10′ the stracittadina was ignited by the goal of one of the most anticipated men of the evening, Lorenzo Pellegrini: the Giallorossi captain received from Saelemaekers, made a feint and slotted the ball into the back of the net with a curling shot. Claudio Ranieri’s boys want to take advantage of the positive moment and three minutes later they tried with Hummels, whose shot was deflected into the corner. On 18′ Roma doubled with Alexis Saelemaekers, who, after receiving a ball from Dybala, first had his shot blocked by Provedel and then scored on the rebound. Lazio needed a jolt and on 22′ it was Dele-Bashiru who sounded the charge with a great personal action, which ended with the winning of a corner kick. The Biancocelesti begin to feel some nervousness and, as a result of some unfair interventions, they get three cautions in the space of a few minutes. At the end of the first half, Marco Baroni’s team makes an appearance from the sides of Svilar, but without much conviction. They go to rest on the 2-0 scoreline. In the second half, the biancoceleste coach tries to shake up his team by inserting Dia and Tchaouna and in a few minutes the team manages to build some interesting chances with shots from Castellanos, Romagnoli and Rovella. The most dangerous was Guendouzi, whose conclusion was repelled by a careful Svilar. In 58′ Pellegrini, served by Dovbyk, tries a personal one-two but finds opposition with his fists from Provedel. A minute later in the other half Tchaouna did not take advantage of Dia’s bank, wasting an excellent chance to shorten the distance, due to a slip at the moment of the shot. In 69′ Castellanos let off an insidious diagonal, but Svilar stretched out and avoided trouble. In the Biancocelesti’s final forcing, Zaccagni squandered a good chance, while Dia failed to find the winning paw on Nuno Tavares’ assist. In the midst of recovery, a melee ignited following a hard face-off between Hummels and Castellanos, leading to the Argentine striker’s expulsion. Despite the final siege by the Biancocelesti, the Giallorossi managed to defend the 2-0 win and bring home a valuable victory. By virtue of this result, Roma won its second consecutive derby and climbed to 10th place with 23 points, while Lazio remains fourth at 35. The Giallorossi will return to the pitch on Sunday, January 12 at the Dall’Ara against Bologna, while the Biancocelesti will be engaged on Friday night at the Olimpico against Como.- Photo Ipa Agency -(ITALPRESS).
