MILAN (ITALPRESS) – Pirelli introduces the fifth generation of the P Zero, the progenitor of a family of tires that since 1985 “has been synonymous with performance and safety,” reads a note. “In fact, it was the P Zero that inaugurated the Ultra-High Performance (UHP) tire market at its debut, evolving over the years and managing to anticipate the needs of the premium and prestige world in each new version.Born out of Pirelli’s experience in motorsport, the P Zero brand has given birth to an entire family of products that today covers the different needs of the high-end.The generational leap of this product has been made thanks to innovative development technologies. By applying artificial intelligence systems with algorithms designed by Pirelli, R&D engineers were able to identify innovative solutions, reaching the highest level of understanding of the dynamics related to tire operation. Prototype testing using virtual tools has contributed to this, which also makes it possible to reduce the time and resources required for development.Points of excellence of the new P Zero are confirmed to be performance and safety, with improved handling (confirmed by track tests on both dry and wet surfaces) and reduced braking distances (the range for the aftermarket at launch is in class “A” of the European wet label). Among the goals of the new product was to anticipate the rapidly evolving needs of the automotive market, starting with the transition to electric. The development strategy focused, therefore, on tire structure and tread pattern, which were optimized through upgraded grooves and footprint to increase cornering grip. The more balanced footprint pressure brings benefits to braking and wear rate, enabling consistent performance throughout the tire’s life cycle. The new P Zero also stands out at first glance, thanks to revamped graphics with contrasting markings on the sidewall. The fifth generation of the P Zero offers a range between 18 and 23 inches, with more than 50 products already available that add to the other products in the P Zero family to achieve complete coverage of the premium and prestige market in all its applications. Most of the products in the new P Zero offering, moreover, feature Specialties, starting with Elect, the technology package for electric cars and plug-in hybrids that enables up to a 10 percent increase in autonomy, thanks to reduced rolling resistance, and adopts specially designed solutions for high torque and reduced noise. In addition, the company’s engineers are already at work equipping dozens of new models coming to market in the near future, while specific versions have already been approved for models such as Lamborghini Urus SE, Audi A5, BMW M5 and M5 Touring, Mercedes GLE and GLS, Lucid Gravity, Polestar 4, Nio ET9, and Xiaomi SU7. High performance and technology are confirmed, even in this model update, as the key points of the P Zero range, which benefits from Pirelli’s privileged relationship with all major carmakers in the premium and prestige segments. A relationship that has led the Group’s tires to equip more than 50 percent of the high- and ultra-high-end cars in all the world’s markets.Over the course of its 40-year history, there have been more than 3 thousand versions of P Zero made to measure for models such as Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Aventador, McLaren P1; all Pagani; Aston Martin V12 Vantage; Porsche 911 in multiple declinations; as well as dozens of models from brands such as Audi, BMW, Jaguar Land Rover and Mercedes. The P Zero family has always been a development laboratory for Pirelli. It is in the P Zero world that innovations such as Elect (in 2019), and P Zero E (2023), the world’s first UHP tire with more than 55 percent of its materials from natural or recycled origin and with the “triple A” in the European label, make their debut. In this family there are several UHP products designed for various needs, from electric cars to tires designed for the track, to treads for winter. In fact, the new P Zero is joined by the P Zero E (which combines e-mobility, safety, confirmed by the “triple A” in the European label, and reduced environmental impact thanks to the use of more than 55 percent materials of natural or recycled origin), the P Zero R (to maximize the sporty performance and driving pleasure of performance cars and SUVs), and the P Zero Trofeo RS (designed for track driving but also approved for road use). Finally, the range includes P Zero Winter 2, which maintains performance and driving pleasure even on wet or snow-covered surfaces. Finally, in motorsport, from which P Zero derived its origins, it is now associated with the highest-performance racing tires, from Formula 1 to other categories.
