MILAN (ITALPRESS) – Pirelli presents the new Scorpion, the latest evolution of the summer tyre dedicated to SUVs, offering safety, driving comfort and lasting performance. Marchio was born in 1986 expressly for the “high-drive” vehicles and that at the debut equipped the Lamborghini LM002, today Scorpion ranges from the tyres for SUVs, to those for the road enduro and the cross in the motorcycle, up to the offroad in the bike sector.“The new Scorpion – reads in a note – is characterized by the excellent quality both on dry and wet, certified by the independent agency TU’V that gave him the tyre was in fact ranked first in the dry braking tests and on the wet was first in wet handling, positioning at the top in braking and straight aquaplaning. The whole Scorpion range has achieved the launch of Class A in the European label for wet grip, also ensuring acoustic comfort (Class A/B) and a high kilometre yield, also boasting Class B for rolling resistance. Finally, it shows the consistency of the performance on dry and wet, in the typical temperatures of the summer season”. The development of a product specializing in the SUV world provides a dedicated design to meet the typical needs of this segment, such as the greatest weight and the highest center of gravity. The improvements demonstrated by the new Scorpion are mainly due to an integrated design, levering on a new tread mix that offers stable performance in different conditions, a greater grip on the wet and at the same time an excellent kilometer yield, to meet the peculiarities of the Sport Utility segment today. The reinforced structure and the updated mix also ensures uniform wear, ideal for heavy vehicles. Thanks to the profile and design of the tread with a new groove geometry, optimized for SUVs, it has been perfected not only the handle but also the acoustic comfort, getting the A/B Class of the European label for noise. In the development of the new Scorpion, Pirelli’s R&D team designed and tested the new product in virtual mode. In particular, thanks to the tools of forecasting the kilometric yield designed by the engineers of Milan, it was possible to evaluate, exclusively in virtual environment, more than 20 technological variants between mixes and tread designs, to identify the best mix able to increase the mileage percorrible. The virtual development, also thanks to the use of driving simulators, has allowed to optimize aspects such as handling, behavior on dry and driving pleasure. The next phase of physical testing confirmed progress over the previous generation. The new Scorpion is developed specifically for the SUV world using dedicated technical solutions, such as a reinforced carcasss, larger central dots and optimized profile to facilitate uniform pressure distribution and reduce deformation in the shoulder area. The product shares part of the innovative materials that have led to success the last generation of the Belt, summer tire dedicated to the berline and CUV, which at the debut has imposed itself at the top in the comparison conducted by Tyre Reviews on the summer premium products, demonstrating balance between safety and efficiency and overcoming typical compromises as duration and resistance to rolling. Already available in 16 sizes from 18 to 22 inches, the new Scorpion is also characterized by the presence of technologies like Elect, which allows to increase up to 10% the autonomy of electric cars[5] and plug-in hybrids and adopts solutions studied ad hoc for the peculiarities of these motors. Developed in collaboration with leading automotive manufacturers, in continuity with the Scorpion Summer range that boasts 300 homologationsthe new generation counts more than 40 in development.
