Pope Francis, two episodes of acute respiratory failure

ROME (ITALPRESS) – According to information from the Vatican Press Office, the Holy Father presented today with two episodes of acute respiratory failure, caused by significant accumulation of endobronchial mucus and consequent bronchospasm. Therefore, two bronchoscopies were performed with the need for aspiration of copious secretions. In the afternoon, noninvasive mechanical ventilation was resumed. Pope remained alert, oriented and cooperative at all times. The prognosis remains reserved.
