METZ (FRANCIA) (ITALPRESS) – “Schuman reminds us that we must always demonstrate realism and courage: “Europe – he said – will not be done in a single blow, nor in a total construction: it will be done through concrete achievements that create first of all a factual solidarity”. We must never lose confidence in our ability to progress, even if the steps taken are sometimes small and almost imperceptible. The modern claim of “having everything immediately” does not correspond to European history and culture which, on the contrary, teach the value of time and patience. It is with small steps that one can give life to this concrete solidarity, which implies that no one feels abandoned or forgotten.” Pope Leo XIV said this in his speech at the Robert Schuman Centre in Metz, in the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron.
“By sharing these reflections, I think first of all to young people, called to build Europe today and tomorrow. As Schuman observed: “That this idea of a reconciled, united and strong Europe becomes from now on the motto for young generations, eager to serve a humanity finally liberated from hatred and fear, which reimposes, after too much time of divisions, the Christian brotherhood” – the Pontiff emphasized. To the young people I say: have the courage to live in a responsible way the mission of building peace, in your heart, in your relations, in your family, in schools and universities, in the life of your cities, your countries and all of Europe”.

Do not be afraid to form a family, to generate children, to defend the dignity of each person, from the first moment in the breast of the mother to the last breath. Do not be afraid to work tirelessly at the service of the good of your communities, even through political commitment – Pope Leo XIV concluded. Be community builders.
