Premier Meloni visits Seoul cemetery “Fianco side by side for freedom and peace”

SEOUL (SOUTH KOREA) (ITALPRESS) – The President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, visited the Seoul National Cemetery, the national cemetery of Seoul. The camp is dedicated to honoring soldiers fallen for the nation, especially during the Korean War.
The premier participated in the official ceremony of greeting to the flag, laying a crown and offering the incense three times, as foreseen by the ritual: a gesture of strong symbolic value in the Korean tradition, where number three represents the union of heaven, earth and people, also recalled in the national flag.
“Today I am here to bow before all those who have sacrificed the most precious good in the name of the Homeland”, we read in the message written by the premier in the Book of Honor. “Their sacrifice – he adds – was not vain, because he gave voice to a people and a future to a nation. Here memory lives in the present, and it is responsible for the generations that will come. Today, as yesterday, Italy and Korea are side by side to defend freedom and build peace.”
The visit to the cemetery was the first official engagement of the premier in Korea, the last stop of his diplomatic tour in Asia. To follow, Meloni will meet the representatives of the main Italian companies present in the country. Then, tomorrow will hold a bilateral with Korean President Lee Jae-myung.
This is the first visit of an Italian premier in the country for almost 20 years. On the agenda the strengthening of economic and industrial cooperation, with particular attention to technology, semiconductors and trade. It also includes the signature of agreements on emergency management, civil protection and protection of cultural heritage between the two countries.
