LOS ANGELES (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – The organizing committee of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028 (LA28) presented the complete calendar of Olympic competitions, indicating for each discipline the dates and moments in which the medals will be assigned. They will be triathlon and swimming to open and close the Games, while there will be a record of events reserved for women and a Super Saturday (on July 29, eve of closing) with 26 finals.
“With the opening of tickets scheduled for January 2026, it is the ideal time to start planning what events to follow, what sports will arrive in different neighborhoods and what historical moments you can’t miss,” said LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover. The Los Angeles 2028 games will be the biggest ever, with 51 sports, 49 racing venues and 18 competition areas distributed between the Los Angeles and Oklahoma City region. The opening ceremony is scheduled for 14 July 2028, while the closing ceremony is scheduled for 30 July. After more than twenty years, the first event with the award of medals will be the triathlon, with the female race scheduled on July 15 in the spectacular setting of Venice Beach. The last Olympic medal of LA28 will be awarded in swimming a few hours before the closing ceremony.
The Games will start with a great show: the finals of the 100 meters female and male planes will be held in the first two days of races, while the Olympic marathon will close the athletic festival on the final weekend. For the first time in Olympic history, the Los Angeles Games will hold a female participation of more than 50%, with 50.5% of the athletes allocated to women. Even in team disciplines, equality will be total or even in favour of women’s training. The first day of races will be memorable: the highest number of female finals ever played in one day, including triathlon, 100 meters and weight jet, judo (-48kg), fencing (individual space), slalom canoe (single kayak), seven-wheeled rugby (carbine 10m).
The 15th day of races (July 29th) will pass to history as the “Super Saturday”: an unprecedented day with 26 finals in 23 sports. Olympic titles will be awarded in disciplines such as athletics (maratona), basketball, volleyball, swimming, golf, softball, cricket, riding, cycling on track, sports climbing, taekwondo, fight and many more. A final weekend designed to offer maximum emotion to spectators and athletes around the world.
The LA28 Games will mark the return of baseball and softball, absent from Tokyo 2020, the cricket will return to the Games after over a century, while lacrosse will make its official return. Among the absolute novelties, they will debut flag football and squash, with the first medals awarded between the seventh and tenth day of races. Six new mixed team events will also be introduced, including: archery (mixed team complex), athletics (4x100m mixed), artistic gymnastics (mixed squares), coastal rowing (double mixed), golf (mixed squares), table tennis (mixed clubs).
