Le motivazioni dell’ufficio elettorale centrale
Romania’s Central Electoral Office has published the reasons for rejecting Calin Georgescu’s candidacy in the presidential election. According to the reasons, Georgescu violated “the obligation to respect democracy.” In its decision, therefore, the Office does not invoke procedural issues, but rather issues related to respect for the Constitution.
“The rulings of the Constitutional Court in Decision no. 32 of Dec. 6, 2024 (on the annulment of the presidential election), decisions that are also binding on the Central Election Office, lead to the conclusion that, as far as the candidacy of Mr. Georgescu Calin is concerned, it does not meet the conditions of legality because the candidate, by not complying with the rules of the electoral procedure, violated the very obligation to defend democracy, which is based precisely on fair voting, honest and impartial voting,” reads the Office’s resolution, which also points out that “the decisions and rulings of the Constitutional Court are part of the constitutional order and are generally binding, imposing themselves erga omnes, thus also on the public authorities called upon to organize and monitor the smooth conduct of the electoral process for the election of the president of Romania, including the Central Electoral Office.”
