Pro-Iranian militias entered Syria from Iraq.

Iranian-backed militias entered Syria overnight from Iraq and are heading into northern Syria to reinforce besieged Syrian Army forces fighting insurgents. Two Syrian army sources told Arab media. Dozens of Iraqi fighters from Iran-aligned Hashd al Shaabi militias from Iraq have entered Syria through a military route near the Al Bukamal crossing. Iran sent thousands of Shiite fighters into Syria during the Syrian war and, along with Russia with its air power, enabled Syrian President Bashar Assad to crush the insurgency and regain most of his territory. Lack of manpower to help counter the rebel onslaught in recent days has contributed to the Syrian army forces’ rapid retreat and withdrawal from the city of Aleppo, according to two other army sources.
