VATICAN CITY (ITALPRESS) – During an audience granted to Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, and Monsignor Edgar Pena Parra, Substitute for General Affairs, Pope Francis authorized the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints to promulgate several decrees, including one regarding “the offering of the life of the Servant of God Salvo D’Acquisto, faithful layman, born in Naples on Oct. 15, 1920, and died in Palidoro, Italy, on Sept. 23, 1943.”
Army Corps General Salvatore Luongo, Commanding General of the Carabinieri, on behalf of himself and all Carabinieri of Italy, expresses “the most heartfelt gratitude to His Holiness Pope Francis for the Decree recognizing the offering of the life of the Servant of God Vice Brigadier Salvo D’Acquisto, Gold Medal for Military Valor, raising him to the title of ‘Venerable. “It is with deep emotion that I welcome the news of the recognition granted to Vice Brigadier Salvo D’Acquisto,” stated the Commander General. “Salvo D’Acquisto is a shining example of courage, self-sacrifice and love of neighbor that transcends the boundaries of time: a role model for all Carabinieri and for future generations.” The Commanding General, moreover, thanked His Holiness, to whom he addresses his prayers that he may find comfort and strength in these delicate days, for emphasizing, once again, the profound significance of the moral legacy left by Salvo D’Acquisto. “The Carabinieri Corps is honored to preserve and pass on his teaching, knowing that his sacrifice depicts the highest expression of our oath,” General Luongo further declares. Finally, concludes the Arma Summit, “a moving thought to the family members of Salvo D’Acquisto, whose name is engraved in the history of the Institution and in the hearts of Italians, and to all the men and women of the Arma who every day, with the same spirit, work for security and justice.”
