Pronto Diabete returns, until 14/3 free specialist consultations

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Pronto Diabete, the national campaign that, from Feb. 17 to March 14, makes available to patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus free specialist consultations with a diabetologist, which can be booked through the toll-free number 800042747, is back. There are 40 specialized centers throughout Italy where it will be possible to book the consultations, more information at www.prontoDiabete.it.Patrocinata by the Italian Society of Diabetology (SID) and the Association of Diabetes Physicians (AMD), with the support of the association Diabetes Italy and Sistema Farmacia Italia and in partnership with Astra Zeneca, the initiative aims to raise awareness among the approximately 4 million Italians with Type 2 Diabetes about the importance of optimal management of the disease. The goal is to promote correct information, improve patient education, and prevent renal and cardiovascular complications through early diagnosis.Diabetes Mellitus is one of the most widespread chronic diseases-characterized by high blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia) due to altered insulin action-and can bring serious repercussions on cardiovascular and renal health. According to the most recent data from the Global Burden of Disease, in Italy, Type 2 Diabetes accounts for 5.6 percent of the years lived in disability, ranking among the most disabling chronic diseases. Therefore, early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are crucial to reduce the risk of complications. The true prevalence of diabetes may be underestimated: estimates suggest that more than one million people live with the disease without knowing it. In other words, for every three patients with a confirmed diagnosis, there is at least one person who is unaware that they are diabetic, and for every person with diabetes there is another with a high risk of developing the disease. The onset of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is often related to unhealthy lifestyles (obesity, sedentary lifestyle) and susceptibility to risk factors such as hypercholesterolemia and hypertension, as well as the socioeconomic status of patients, with a higher prevalence (7.4 percent) in the less educated population. The campaign aims to inform the public about current strategies for the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, which are not limited to the treatment of the overt disease, but focus on the prevention of complications, encouraging patient education and the active involvement of caregivers. “We welcome initiatives such as Pronto Diabete, which represent a fundamental opportunity to spread more awareness about the disease, promote correct information and provide patients with concrete support,” says Engineer Stefano Nervo, President of Diabetes Italy. “In fact, Type 2 diabetes is often related to an underestimation of one’s condition by those who have it, increasing the risk of worsening the disease and developing cardiovascular and renal complications, which have a strong impact on patients’ quality of life. Projects of this kind make it possible to support patients in a concrete way, helping them to monitor and manage their condition more effectively and prevent its worsening consequences. “Multidisciplinary and integrated management, involving primary care physicians, specialists, community pharmacies and patient associations, is essential to improve disease management and ensure a better quality of life for patients.
