Prostate hypertrophy, at Partinico already 60 interventions with the Rezum procedure

PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – There are 60 Rezum procedures already performed in the U.O.S. Department of Urology of the Hospital “Civico” of Partinico, of the ASP of Palermo, for the treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy. The unit, directed by Maurizio Cacciatore, is currently the only structure of the Provincial Health Company of Palermo to adopt this mini-invasive method. “Rezum procedure is an effective and safe solution for the treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy – explains Maurizio Cacciatore – it is a mini-invasive technique that significantly reduces urinary symptoms, with reduced intervention times, rapid post-operative recovery and beneficial clinical benefits, already, in the first few weeks.” The treatment uses water vapour, obtained from the transformation of water into steam, which is injected into hypertrophic prostate lobes, resulting in a progressive volumetric reduction. The procedure is characterized by the absence of surgical incisions and liver losses, a reduced decency and the possibility of execution without general anesthesia. “The methodical – adds Cacciatore – is indicated, both in younger patients, in which it allows the preservation of the ejaculatory function, and in elderly patients carrying catheter to stay and not eligible for traditional surgical interventions for the presence of comorbility.” Clinical benefits are generally found within about 15 days of surgery and are stable over time. To access the treatment it is necessary to book a urological visit in the U.O.S. Department of Urology of the Hospital Presidio of Partinico through the CUP of the ASP of Palermo.
