ROME (ITALPRESS) – Strengthening the technical-administrative customs collaboration between the Customs and Monopolies Agency and the Governorate of the Vatican City State:this is what the protocol signed today at the Adm headquarters provides. “The Italian government welcomes this initiative disemplification of the customs relationship. Adm manages a ruolorilevant for the State. Of particular importance are the activities of the Agency in the customs area, which represents administrative excellence. It is important for the government that relations with the Vatican State be marked by fruitful collaboration,” said Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Maurizio Leo. For Adm Director Roberto Alesse, “with the signing of the memorandum of understanding, bilateral relations between Italy and the Holy See are strengthened. Over the years, Italy and Vatican City have been committed to ensuring that customs operations take place in an efficient and safe manner.International regulations,” he explained, “have evolved, as they are subject to continuous changes: Italy actively participated in the creation of the European Customs Union in 1968, and subsequent reforms have made it necessary to constantly update customs practices. New issues,” he added, “require shared responses: in this regulatory context, the protocol provides a new operational framework. The goal of the protocol signed today, in the Jubilee year, is “to give a significant boost to the interchange to our systems. It is a tangible sign of how cooperation between our two states can grow,” Alesse concluded. The Protocol is accompanied by two technical annexes that pertain to the organization of a training program in customs matters and, the introduction, on an experimental basis, of a telematic procedure that simplifies and makes more efficient the way in which currency declarations are submitted. For the president of the Governorate of the Vatican City State, Cardinal Fernando Vèrgez Alzaga, “the protocol concretizes and improves the dialogue between Italy and the Vatican, to the benefit of the customs procedures adopted. It is increasingly necessary for Customs and the Governorate to collaborate in order to foster the streamlining of bureaucracy and improve procedures.” Secretary General of the Governorate of the Vatican City State, Sister Raffaella Petrini, stressed that “Adm is actively collaborating with the Vatican on important issues such as security and customs procedures. The protocol is a fundamental tool to further improve the partnership and prevent crimes and promote the free movement of goods and people.
