ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Ravenna is the capital of the sea 2026. To proclaim the winning city Nello Musumeci, Minister for Civil Protection and the Policies of the Sea: “this initiative was born to make competitive the value of a community in its relationship with the sea, the government placed at the center of its program the valorization of the sea, this means to start a serious, concrete interlocution, directed with the communities living the sea. We have 8 thousand km of coasts along which there are cities of sea and city with the sea, I think it is necessary to overcome this gap through a different approach to the culture of the sea, of the sea we can not take care only from May to September”.
The title “Italian Capital of the Sea” is established to promote projects, initiatives and activities dedicated to the valorization and full use of the Italian maritime culture.
The initiative promotes the positive comparison and competition between the different coastal territorial realities, involving all Italian municipalities overlooking the sea. All components of the marine economy are considered, with particular attention to the diffusion of knowledge of the sea, the protection of biodiversity and the sustainable use of marine resources. The common winner will be awarded a contribution of 1 million euros to finance the activities of promotion of marine culture.
