Rebels advance in Syria, Damascus on high alert

Armed Syrian rebel factions say they are within 5 kilometers of the city of Homs after entering the towns of Tbilisa and Rastan in the Homs countryside. The Syrian capital Damascus has been placed on high alert for the Syrian opposition rebels’ continued advance southward. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, control of Homs will affect Hezbollah’s future as the rebels aim to close supply lines between Syria and Lebanon. Meanwhile, the Arida border crossing with Lebanon is out of service after Israeli shelling. Indeed, new Israeli attacks were recorded during the night. Pro-Hezbollah TV station Al-Manar reports airstrikes along the Lebanese-Syrian border, where the IDF has recently operated to prevent arms transfers to Hezbollah. The IDF confirmed that Air Force fighter jets attacked ammunition transfer axes and terrorist infrastructure near the crossings overnight. According to the IDF, they were used to transfer weapons to Hezbollah. The attacks come just over a week after the start of a fragile truce between Israel and Hezbollah.
