Record turnout for Open Day in Lampedusa, 1,490 services in 2 days

LAMPEDUSA (AGRIGENTO) (ITALPRESS) – The citizens of Lampedusa responded en masse to the call on prevention launched by the Palermo Asp that concluded the week dedicated to screenings in the largest of the Pelagie Islands. At the end of a two-day Open Day organized in collaboration with the local municipal administration, staff from the NIHMP (National Institute for Health Promotion of Migrant Populations and the Fight against Poverty Diseases) and volunteers from the Lampedusa Lions Club, a total of 1,490 services were provided. This is a record number, never before recorded in a single leg of the traveling initiative organized by the capital’s health authority.
“We were surprised, but at the same time, we are fully satisfied with the enormous adherence of the citizens of Lampedusa to the Open Day screenings,” emphasized the Health Director of the Palermo Asp, Antonino Levita, “the result is the result of the valuable promotion done in the area and the extraordinary sensitivity of the people of Lampedusa. We are also flatly satisfied with the response of our entire organization, which was ready, in all its articulations, to meet the choice to participate in the screening.”
Among the 1,490 services ensured by the Asp’s operators, 83 were mammograms, 81 pap smears and hpv tests, 72 sof tests distributed (for the detection of occult blood in the stool as part of colorectal cancer screening), 200 of cardiovascular prevention, 260 of pediatric visual and speech screenings, 201 vaccinations, 50 of diabetes screening, 48 of sexually transmitted infectious diseases, 71 audiometric, 19 of social dentistry and 43 of the administrative desk. There were, however 78 services in the eye screening outpatient clinic with a diagnosis, also of unknown “anterior chamber vitreous prolapse” with visual disturbances for 10 days. It will be necessary in a vitrectomy surgery.
Also present were veterinarians who, as part of stray prevention activities, sterilized 142 dogs and cats by implanting as many microchips.
At the end of the activities of the Open Day, the Health Director of the Asp, Antonino Levita, met with the staff of the Health Authority on duty on the camper of the obstetric-gynecological triage of Contrata Imbriacola, the operators of the Red Cross of the Hotspot and, finally, in the premises of City Hall, the top management of the Municipal Administration led by Filippo Mannino and the Commander of the local Carabinieri Station, Lieutenant, Giuseppe Frenna. Also present at the meeting was the President of the Virtual Zone of the Lampedusa Lions Club, Genni Caranna.
