ROME (ITALPRESS) – In December 2024, retail sales are estimated to have a positive economic change in both value (+0.6 percent) and volume (+0.8 percent). Both sales of food goods (+0.6 percent in value and +0.7 percent in volume, respectively) and non-food goods (+0.8 percent in value and +0.9 percent in volume) are up. This is announced by Istat. In the last quarter of 2024, in cyclical terms, retail sales increased by 0.3 percent in value and fell by 0.2 percent in volume. Sales of food goods are up in value (+0.5 percent) and down in volume (-0.6 percent), while sales of non-food goods are stationary in value and show a slight increase in volume (+0.1 percent).On a trend basis, in December 2024, retail sales are up 0.6 percent in value and 0.1 percent in volume. Sales of food goods are up 0.7 percent in value and down 1.5 percent in volume, while sales of non-food goods are growing in both value and volume (+0.6 percent +1.1 percent, respectively).As for non-food goods, there are heterogeneous trend changes among product groups. The largest increase relates to Perfumery, personal care products (+4.8%), while pharmaceutical products (-1.8%) record the largest decline. Compared to December 2023, the value of retail sales is increasing for large-scale retail (+1.9%) and e-commerce (+7.0%), while there is a decline for sales of businesses operating on small areas (-1.5%) and sales outside stores (-1.7%).
