RIAD (SAUDI ARABIA) (ITALPRESS) – After 12 hours, the meeting between Russia and the United States in Riyadh to find a peace agreement in the Ukraine war has ended. In fact, according to Ria Novosti reports, the Russian delegation has left the Saudi Arabian capital and a joint statement will be issued tomorrow.
The meeting between the two delegations had begun this morning. Russia was represented at the meeting by the head of the International Committee of the Federation Council Grigory Karasin and advisor to FSB director Sergei Beseda.
Among the items under discussion was a cease-fire covering the Black Sea area. In the background of the negotiations, however, mutual accusations remain between Moscow and Kiev of “not wanting peace.” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova used these words to comment on a Ukrainian attack on the Krasnodar region. Earlier, Moscow’s Defense Ministry had pointed out that a drone had been shot down seven kilometers from the Kropotkinskaya oil pumping station in that very region.
In contrast, the Russian attack launched today on the Ukrainian town of Sumy left at least 74 people injured, including 14 children. Several homes were hit, as well as an educational institution, and according to Mayor Artem Kobzar a hospital near the school was also damaged in the blast. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha wrote on X that Russia must stop its attacks instead of “making empty statements about peace.”

The Ukrainian delegation remained in Saudi Arabia again today, after talks yesterday with representatives of the U.S. administration, to hold consultations at the end of today’s ongoing talks between the U.S. and Russian delegations. This was stated by Serhiy Leshchenko, adviser to the head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Ukrinform news agency reported. “The Ukrainian delegation will not return (to Kiev) in order to be able to hold consultations in turn after the U.S. negotiations with the aggressor state,” the adviser said. According to Leshchenko, more generally “these negotiations will continue for some time, but they need not end with sensationalist headlines, because this is just another round, after which other high-level meetings on peace are possible.”
