Roma beats Eintracht 2-0 and advances to playoffs

ROME (ITALPRESS) – With goals from Angelino and Shomurodov, Roma beat Eintracht 2-0 and finished 15th in the standings, thus qualifying for the Europa League playoffs where they will face one of Ferencvaros or Porto. It will be tomorrow’s draw (1 p.m.) that will define the fixture list for the Giallorossi, who in the eventual round of 16 could find the derby against Lazio. For now, Ranieri enjoys the strides of a Roma side adept at quickly finding solutions to put the Germans, who closed the match at the Olimpico with only one shot in the mirror. Much more fluid was the maneuvering of the home formation. The Giallorossi team is 15th in the Europa League for accuracy on crosses (27.8%). Yet it is the crosses that are the tactical key of the first half despite the main recipient, Dovbyk, being in the shadow for most of the match. Standing in for the Ukrainian is Angelino. It is the Spaniard who comes close to scoring on 10′ with a header off Saelemaekers cross and it is he three minutes later who serves the ball into the box that Dovbyk, unmarked, sends over the crossbar. After a post hit by Mancini on the developments of a corner kick at 36′, Roma unlocked the result at 44′ precisely through Angelino: Pellegrini finished a wraparound action by spreading for Mancini who crossed centrally for the Spaniard, author of an impregnable volley for both Trapp and Koch, who had attempted a save on the line. Upon returning from the locker room, Roma took a risk: Theate imbued for Ekitike who skipped past Svilar but went too wide and favored the goalkeeper’s recovery. On the stroke of the hour mark, Ranieri makes the first changes: out go Paredes and Saelemaekers, in come Cristante and Soulè. Then comes the turn of Shomurodov, who takes Dovbyk’s place. It was the newcomers who built the 2-0 lead at 69′: Soulè slipped past a number of opponents and launched Shomurodov, who headed the ball forward, resisted the return of Tuta and beat Trapp. The Uzbek, approached in the market by Venezia, is waiting to find out his future.
