Romagnoli drags Lazio to the quarters, it’s 1-1 with Plzen

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Romagnoli again, always Romagnoli: the Lazio centerback finds his third goal in less than a week and allows his team to enter the Europa League quarterfinals.

The defender, in fact, scored the 1-1 goal in the return match against Viktoria Plzen: a result that, after the 1-2 in the Czech Republic, rewards precisely the Capitolini, now awaited by Bodo/Glimt.

Baroni has to do without Gigot and Rovella, disqualified after their expulsions in the first leg: in their place Patric, alongside Romagnoli, and Vecino, alongside Guendouzi; forwards, instead, Castellanos is back after his injury. The match opens with Dweh’s very dangerous intervention on Zaccagni, after just 30″: serious oversight by Makkelie, who only draws the yellow, but inexplicable the failure to call the Var for what seems a sacrosanct expulsion. Beyond this episode, the Czechs play much better, with aggression and intensity, while Lazio looks underwhelming, vulnerable and distracted. The first chance is for Kalvach, with a sudden shot that finds Provedel reactive. The Lazio goalkeeper, however, is inaccurate with his feet at 12′, giving a chance to Vydra who hits the crossbar.

Lazio tried to create something with Pedro, but Castellanos, clearly still far from his best form, was ineffective. The first half ended with Lazio struggling, saved by a Vecino intervention. Pedro again created a chance at the beginning of the second half, but at 52′ came the guest’s advantage with Sulc, who unloaded under the crossbar after Durosinmi’s bank.

The conceded goal shakes Lazio, which pours forward. The entry of Lazzari and Dia, in this sense, helps the Biancocelesti, who find a well-deserved equalizer in 77′: Zaccagni’s corner, Romagnoli strikes a header and, accomplice to a slight deflection by Vydra, beats Jedlicka, who fails to prevent the ball from crossing the goal line. Again trailing in the double-header, Viktoria Plzen tried everything in the last minutes, but Lazio gained confidence, risked something but kept the precious draw.
