ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The Pyramid Cestia reopens to the public after three years with a new lighting and a completely redeveloped archaeological area. The interventions made by the Special Superintendence of Rome within the PNRR – Caput Mundi, the monument will reopen with a calendar of free day and evening openings that, from September 4 to October 31, will allow to visit one of the most iconic monuments of the city in a renewed capacity.
The evening guided tours will start on September 4th and continue every Friday of the month, offering visitors the opportunity to discover the monument in the evocative night atmosphere, enhanced by the new lighting system. The programme will also include additional daytime free openings in September and October. Visits will be upon reservation until the available places are exhausted.
“With this intervention, the PNRR confirms its value not only as an instrument of conservation of cultural heritage, but also as an opportunity to make it more accessible and close to the public,” says the Special Superintendent of Rome Daniela Porro. “The redevelopment of the Cestia Pyramid effectively improves the reception, security and accessibility of the site, allowing citizens and visitors to return a more rich and inclusive visit experience. ”
It shows the complete renovation of the scenic lighting system, both external and inside the funeral room, designed to highlight the architecture of the Pyramid and the decorative apparatuses of the burial environment, for a more effective reading of the monument even in the evening hours. In addition to the lighting, a path of accessibility with a new pavement, the arrangement of the green areas with the renovation of the irrigation system, the new information panels, the requalification of the fences, the replacement of the access gate from Piazzale Ostiense with a new handrail along the staircase and a better organization of the spaces for the feline colony.
“In this intervention we followed a precise principle: to improve every aspect of the visit in respect of the identity of the monument,” says Barbara Rossi, head of the Pyramid Cestia. “The new lighting system is also studied with this purpose: to accompany the visitor’s gaze, highlighting the volumes of the Pyramid and the frescoes of the funeral room without altering its perception. With new routes and services, it contributes to making the site more readable, accessible, functional”. The extraordinary openings will offer the public the opportunity to know from close to the results of the project and to rediscover one of the most representative monuments of ancient Rome through a renewed visit, designed to combine protection, accessibility and enhancement.
