Rubio in Monaco “We want a strong Europe, our destinies are tied”

MONACO DI BAVIERA (GERMANY) (ITALPRESS) – “We want Europe to be strong. We believe that Europe must survive. Because the two great wars of the last century serve us as a constant warning of history, which ultimately our destiny is and will always be interwoven with yours. Because we know that national security, of which this conference deals largely, is not simply a series of technical issues. How much we spend on defense or where, as we unfold it, are important questions. But they’re not the fundamental ones. The fundamental question we have to answer at first is: what exactly are we defending? For armies do not fight for abstractions. The armies fight for a people. The armies fight for a nation. The armies fight for a lifestyle. And this is what we are defending, a great civilization that has every reason to be proud of its history, confident in its future and which aims to be always the master of its economic and political destiny.” The US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said this by speaking at the Monaco Conference on Security. “It is here in Europe that the ideas that have planted the seeds of freedom have changed the world. It is here in Europe that the world has received the rule of law, universities and scientific revolution. This continent has produced the genius of Mozart and Beethoven, Dante and Shakespeare, Michelangelo and Da Vinci, Beatles and Rolling Stones. And this is the place where the frescoed vaults of the Sistine Chapel and the imposing spires of the Great Cathedral of Cologne testify not only the greatness of our past or a faith in God that inspired these wonders. They proclaim the wonders that await us in our future. But only if we are without apologies in our heritage and proud of this common heritage, we will be able to begin the work of imagining and shaping our economic and political future.”.

“Deindustrialization was not inevitable. It was a conscious political choice, an economic enterprise lasting decades that has stripped our nations of their wealth, their productive capacity and their independence. And the loss of our sovereignty in supply chains was not the result of a prosperous and healthy global trade system. It was a silly choice. A foolish but voluntary transformation of our economy that has left us dependent on others for our needs and dangerously vulnerable to crisis. Mass migration is not, it was not, a marginal concern of little account. It has been and continues to be a crisis that is transforming and destabilizing societies across the West. Together, we can reindustrialize our economies and rebuild our ability to defend our people. But the work of this new alliance should not only focus on military cooperation and the recovery of the past industries. It should also focus on bringing together our common interests and new frontiers, freeing our ingenuity, creativity and dynamic spirit to build a new Western century: state-of-the-art commercial space travel and artificial intelligence, industrial automation and flexible production, creating a Western supply chain for critical minerals not vulnerable to the blackmail of other powers, and a unified effort to compete for market share in the economies of the South Global. Together, not only can we regain control of our industries and supply chains, but we can thrive in the sectors that will define the 21st century,” Rubio concluded.

“Under Trump’s presidency, the United States of America will once again address the task of renewal and restoration, led by a vision of a proud, sovereign and vital future as the past of our civilization. And if necessary we are ready to do it ourselves, but it is our preference and hope to do it together with you, our friends here in Europe. For the United States and Europe, we belong together. America was founded 250 years ago, but the roots were born here, on this continent, much earlier. The man who colonized and built the nation of my birth arrived on our coasts bringing the memories, traditions and Christian faith of his ancestors as a sacred heritage, an indissoluble bond between the old world and the new. We are part of a civilization, Western civilization. We are linked to each other by the deepest bonds that nations can share, forged for centuries of common history, Christian faith, culture, heritage, language, ancestry and sacrifices that our ancestors have made together for the common civilization of which we are heirs. And that’s why we Americans sometimes seem a little direct and urgent in our councils. That is why President Trump demands seriousness and reciprocity from our friends here in Europe. The reason, my friends, is that we care deeply. We deeply care about your future and ours. And if we disagree sometimes, our disagreements arise from our deep sense of concern for a Europe with which we are connected, not only economically, not only militarily. We are connected spiritually and culturally,” said Rubio.
