Salvation challenge at Hellas, Verona wins 1-0 in Monza

MONZA (ITALPRESS) – A season that started badly and continues to get worse for Bocchetti’s Monza. At the U-Power Stadium, in fact, it is Hellas Verona to smile and put heavy points on the table in view of salvation, beating the Brianza lineup 1-0. Lekovic’s clumsy own goal in the opening condemn Monza (bottom of the standings) to yet another home knockout. The result is also tight for the Scaligeri, several times close in the second half to the second goal. The game immediately went uphill for Monza, due to Lekovic’s resounding own goal after thirteen minutes. In an attempt to deflect Serdar’s cross from the right, in fact, the young Serbian central mistakenly sent the ball behind Turati. Verona yes lucky in finding the lead, but nevertheless already dangerous a few minutes later again with Serdar (miraculous Turati), absolute protagonist of the first half. The German midfielder thus seemed to be in a state of grace, but in the final part of the fraction a muscle problem forced him to leave the field. After the 1-0 suffered the Brianzoli struggle to react, showing a rather sterile ball possession. Monza’s first ringing came only at 33′ and it was a weak conclusion by Dany Mota, blocked without problems by Montipò. At the beginning of the second half Monza continued to grope in the dark, playing without ideas and in a confusing manner. Instead, the one to attack with more conviction is Verona, dangerous especially on the counterattack. At 57′ Niasse, who took over from Serdar, clamorously devoured the ball of 2-0, kicking high in front of Turati. The latter, a few minutes later, leaves the field to Pizzignacco, following physical trouble. The former Feralpisalò goalkeeper is immediately providential on Mosquera’s header: two attempts by Suslov follow, just wide. The final quarter-hour saw Monza’s desperate assault, also shaken by Martins’ excellent entrance from the bench. The only scare, however, for the guest defense was Dany Mota’s header in full recovery just wide (off Ciurria’s corner). Verona thus won a crucial victory that would allow Zanetti’s boys to climb to 13th place, moving away from the red zone. Monza, meanwhile, which lost Maldini (sold to Atalanta), sees salvation getting further and further away.- Photo Image -(ITALPRESS)
