RIMINI (ITALPRESS) – I am “absolutely against the ministry of truth: it is not the role of politics,” which “must create spaces within which ideas can be freely confronted.” Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano said this at the Rimini Meeting. “The policy must give infrastructure, an efficient school system, universities and cultural spaces: this is what we are doing for example on museums, strengthening the structures that are there, creating many spaces of confrontation especially for the younger generations within which ideas can be confronted,” he added. According to the minister, “it certainly cannot be politics to be the ministry of truth that says ‘this thing is done right or this other thing is wrong,’ the important thing is that all opinions can be freely expressed. What can be done is to elevate the quality of public debate, which must return to what it was decades ago, even harsh, hard and confrontational but of quality,” Sangiuliano concluded.
