Save the Children, on 21 May in Rome returns “Impossible 2026” on the rights of childhood and adolescence

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The third edition of the biennial biennial of children’s rights and adolescence organized by Save the Children from 2022 is back on 21 May in Rome. This year’s edition will be dedicated to the theme “In investing in childhood, investing in the peripheries” and will see the participation of girls and boys, experts and experts, representatives of the institutions, the third sector, the world of culture and the enterprise, involved in a confrontation on proposals and concrete initiatives to address the challenge of urban inequalities that prevent girls, children and adolescents from fully accessing and enjoying their rights in our country. During the appointment, which will take place from 9:00 at the Aquarium Romano (Piazza Manfredo Fanti), will be presented an unpublished research on the “peripheries of children”, realized by the Organization’s Research Centre, with the support of a Scientific Committee of Experts and an Address Committee composed of boys and girls from all over Italy, coordinated by the youth association Scomodo. The study – which will represent the heart of the debate and proposals for change – in addition to photographing the structural factors that determine the marginality in the peripheries of the 14 Italian metropolitan cities and their impact on the development and well-being of girls, children and adolescents, highlights resources, skills and unexpressed potential of the territories.

The research consists of a mapping of the peripheries of children and the educational offer, developed in collaboration with ISTAT, flanked by a field survey – which involved about 2,000 students and students of the 14 metropolitan cities – and qualitative backgrounds in four territories made by boys and girls, as well as an insight into the investments and urban policies realized in collaboration with the Bocconi University. “There is no inherent impossibility to save the children of the world. It is impossible only if we refuse to do so”, said a century ago Eglantyne Jebb, the founder of Save the Children, the Organization that for over 100 years has struggled to save children and children at risk and guarantee them a future. And it is precisely inspired by his words that Impossible – coming this year to its third edition – wants to be not only a space of confrontation between different realities but a strategic laboratory to transform marginal areas into neighborhoods of social innovation, where inclusive policies and sustainability can really represent a decisive factor of change for the future of every child and child. Impossible 2026 will begin on the morning of 21 May at the Roman Aquarium with the plenary session, to which will take place several representatives of the world of institutions, the third sector, companies, culture, as well as boys and girls who live daily the outskirts.

In the afternoon they will take place in collaboration with ANCI, the “Possible Dialogues”, a co-design format that provides three parallel work tables, with institutions, thematic experts, third sector, enterprises and young people who have contributed to orienting research, together to define common proposals on themes such as urban, social and educational regeneration, the protagonism of young people and the role of culture for a real change, which surpasses stereotypes. They will be the protagonists of the Dialogues, telling the territories from their point of view and putting on the table ideas, reflections and proposals elaborated along a path of involvement started in the months before the event, and acting as spokesperson for visions, good practices and concrete solutions, in dialogue with political decision makers and other actors.
