ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “ Alliances can change, but principles remain. There is no political future without moral and cultural roots. In a time of extremism and slogans, you need balance and responsibility. Italy will reward those who resist and do not give in to the conveniences of the moment”. Thus Saverio Romano, former minister and political coordinator of Noi Moderati, in an interview with Italpress.
In recent days, a lot of movements and agreements are discussed in the centrist and moderate area. How do you interpret this political phase?
“It is a moment of great fluidity, but also of deep selection. Italian politics lives in cycles: those who remain consistent with their values exceed the storms, those who move only for convenience end on the margins. I believe that today more than ever serves a compass, and that compass is Christian popularism, the inheritance of Sturzo, De Gasperi and Moro. The center is not a place to take care of, but an identity to guard.”.
There are those who believe that the center is now only a passageway between the two poles.
“It’s a superficial reading. The center is the firmest part of the country, the one producing, studying, working and not screaming. That’s where Italian common sense resides. In times of extremism, the voice of responsibility and balance is what Italy can put back in motion. We are here to represent it with consistency and pride.”.
In Sicily are multiplied by English, alliances and new symbols. What is the position of Us Moderate in this scenario?
“We look with respect to everyone, but we stay focused on our project. We are not interested in short term electoral formulas. Politics is not a supermarket: it is a path based on values, credibility and seriousness. We have already shown that consistency pays. In Calabria, Noi Moderati has exceeded 4%, electing two regional advisers: a result that speaks alone. People know who keeps the word given.”.
What is the “centre of values” for you today?
“It is the firm point of our political action. Defend the person, family, work, freedom of enterprise and social solidarity. The center is the politics of human dignity, not of convenience. Don’t mess with anything. The shortcuts bring ephemeral consent, coherence builds over time.”.
She often speaks of “resisting” and “not giving up”. Why?
“For those who make politics by conviction must be able to resist the fashions and moods of the moment. Consistency is not immobilism, it is faithful to an idea of society. We will continue to build, to form new leadership classes, to defend merit and responsibility. I am convinced that, in the end, Italians will reward those who had the courage to remain themselves.”.
Finally, a final message to its voters and sympathizers.
“Don’t be discouraged. Serious policy doesn’t scream, it works. We are, with humility and determination, to give voice to those who believe in the values, freedom and dignity of the person. The future belongs to those who do not bend”.
